Fees

About Our Medical Fees

Navigating the complexities of medical fees can be challenging due to the myriad of factors influencing costs. As a gastroenterologist, the fees for services are shaped by a variety of elements, including the specific procedures performed, the complexity of each case, and the resources required for advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. Additionally, the cost structure may be affected by the need for specialised equipment, and the duration of the treatment. Our practice is committed to providing clear, upfront information about fees and working closely with patients to navigate these financial aspects, ensuring that high-quality care remains accessible and transparent.

Medicare rebates for consultations are automatically processed by our team on the day of consultation.

Item Fee Medicare rebate Your Contribution
Initial consultation $350 $148.35 $201.65
Complex initial consultation (45 minutes) $460 $259.40 $200.6
Follow up consultation $220 $74.25 $145.75

Privately insured patients

As a private patient, Dr Hunter Wang will perform your surgery personally and will also look after you if you are advised to be an in-patient. If he is not available on certain days, an equally qualified colleague will review your inpatient progress. All follow up appointments will be in our private rooms. Procedures are performed at the Sydney Adventist Hospital Day Procedures Centre.

Fee Estimates

We offer informed financial consent to all our patients prior to surgery. This is a pre-treatment estimate of your surgical costs. All procedures are covered under "Known-Gap" arrangements with each health fund. Pensioners and DVA may be eligible for a "No Gap" arrangement.

The pre-treatment fee estimate includes the specific item numbers to be used and enables you to discuss with your health insurance company what you are covered for and if benefits are applicable. Common numbers to check include:

  • Gastroscopy 30473
  • Colonoscopy 32222
  • Polypectomy 32229
  • Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) 30484
  • Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) 30688 or 30692

If you have an excess for hospital admission with your private insurer, you will need to pay this to the hospital on the day of admission. This is dependent on your policy and can range between $0 - $1000. If an excess has already been paid in the current year, no further excess payment be required.

If there is any problem with either the fee estimate or any other billing issue, it is important that you ask our staff. They can help you navigate what can be a complex process by either advising or helping explain the charges and rebate structure.

Uninsured Public Patients

If you are not covered by private health insurance there are two alternatives:

  • Go on a Waiting List at a Public Hospital, or
  • Pay for the operation yourself in a Private Hospital ("Self Insure")

Australian residents who decide to be public patients are entitled to free treatment under Medicare. Your treatment will be carried out by an appropriate specialist which will be arranged prior to your admission. After discharge, your care will either be continued in an outpatient clinic or you will be referred to your local general practitioner.

There are no fees for surgery in the public hospital, however, there is a waiting list. Your procedure may be performed by a supervised trainee or alternate specialist colleague. Your position on the waiting list will be based on the severity of your condition. Your follow-up visits after surgery will be arranged through the hospital.

Dr Hunter Wang provide services for uninsured public patient at Concord Hospital.

Alternatively you can elect to pay for your uninsured operation in the Private Hospital system. Please contact our reception for a fee estimate.
